Oriental Brunch | Grand Café Lochergut

As good as a typical brunch may be, sometimes you just want to bring some variety into your Sunday ritual. Done with greasy sausages and bacon, scrambled eggs and cold cuts - now it's Shakshuka, Labné and Pita Sabich! Sounds like Tel Aviv? Hell no! It’s the “Funky Brunch” at Grand Café Lochergut in Zurich.

The Grand Café Lochergut is located in the heart of Kreis 4 and offers Mediterranean-oriental inspired cuisine. It is restaurant, bar and coffee house all in one. The airy architecture and the large boulevard terrace make the Grand Café very inviting and charming. The hip interior with its unique design make you forget that you are in the heart of Zurich.

This feeling is intensified by the exotic “Funky Brunch”, for which you don't even have to wait until Sundays. It is served daily until 4pm. The brunch offers a bunch of oriental dishes like shakshuka, hummus with pita bread, labné with fried cauliflower or aubergine tartare. But you can also order the classics like pain au chocolat, fried eggs, pancakes or one of the different bagels if you are on the regular mood. Since the Grand Café Lochergut has an uncomplicated sharing concept, we have ordered various dishes for tasting and sharing.

We tried the shakshuka with feta and eggs, hummus with pita bread, labné with fried cauliflower, aubergine tatar and the bagel “Egg Benedikt” with poached egg, hollandaise sauce, ham and spinach.

All the dishes were served together and arranged on the table, it looked simply fantastic. The labné with the fried cauliflower and the bagel were our favorites, whereby everything tasted incredibly delicious.

The portions are not the largest, but you are more than full afterwards. Besides that, you enjoy an excellent coffee or one of the freshly squeezed juices. On top of that, there's free tap water on every table. When the weather is nice, it is worth to sit on the big terrace and watch the hustle and bustle on the streets.

The Grand Café Lochergut has become one of our favourites with its Funky Brunch. Already at breakfast it lets you experience culinary highlights with a sophisticated oriental kitchen, which surprises, inspires and makes you want more. Something new and fresh for your brunch trip on any given day.
