Gourmet Gallop | Weisses Rössli
From hot dogs to white horses, from fast food to fine dining but with the same passion of two creative minds. The founders of the Dogfather at Europaallee now show their gastronomic skills in the well-known restaurant Weisses Rössli on Bederstrasse. A slightly new breeze to the concept, but the cuisine continues to focus on the qualities of the previous owner and chef Mathieu Bacon, who was awarded with 13 Gault Millau points.
The interior of the Weisses Rössli has been lovingly redecorated, setting new accents without losing the old charm of the restaurant. On warmer days, a cosy inner courtyard invites you to sit outside and enjoy your meal under open sky. In the basement of the restaurant, a room for private events is to be built soon, including a bowling alley.
The menu now offers new modern interpretations of a fresh French-Mediterranean cuisine. The dishes are prepared in a light, honest way and without frills. Orders are placed à la carte, but at given menu prices. You are able to choose menus from 2 to 5 courses, which you can assemble with your favourite dishes.
During our visit, the motto of the month was pink, which is why the decoration as well as the dishes were kept in pink. We went for the 4-course menu and let us be surprised by the choice of dishes. First we were served two fancy and very refreshing pink drinks, accompanied by homemade bread with a pink spread, which really whetted our appetite.
To start off, a kind of gazpacho was served to us as an amuse bouche. We truly liked the consistency as well as the taste of it.
The first course was a beautifully arranged caprese with colourful tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella and basil sorbet as well as a mini lettuce with porcini mushrooms, confit lemons and parmesan. We enjoyed both dishes, whereby the caprese was fantastic with its creative preparation and delicate flavor.
After that, we got sweet potato gnocchi with chanterelles, nut butter and Belper Knolle. An excellent dish, harmonious in appearance and taste.
For the main course, we had for one thing braised veal cheek with mashed potatoes and chanterelles and for another cod “sous-vide" with celery-carrot-bacon ragout and Noilly Prat dill butter. Two marvelous main courses, which impressed with a sophisticated preparation and exquisite product quality. Both dishes were cooked to the point and refined with perfectly balanced sauces.
The last two courses were desserts, which consisted of a combination of carrot cake, pineapple and ginger as well as berry sorbet with hazelnut. These two plates were also solid in taste and not too heavy. A very pleaseful ending.
We could spend a harmonious evening at the Weisses Rössli and enjoy a tasty multi-course meal by Mathieu Bacon, who created culinary delights by combining classic products with modern accents. This great experience was underlined by the pleasant ambience, the obliging and dynamic service as well as by the menu prices, which are more than fair.
The guys from Weisses Rössli make fine dining suitable for everyday use again and conquer Zurich’s gastronomy scene at a gallop.
