Cucina con cuore | Mauri’s La Casa

Perched high above Lake Zurich in Feusisberg, Mauri's La Casa literally invites you into its owner's living room with a lot of charm and feel-good ambience. Maurizio Brocca - or Mauri, as everyone calls him - is a true southern Italian with a lot of passion and temperament who has already made a name for himself with the former restaurant La Rocca in Zurich. The La Rocca was a must-go-place back then and one of few places with an open charcoal grill. Now Mauri has made a new start in Feusisberg and invites you into his living room full of memories of times gone by, where he promises "cucina con cuore".

A lot of books, fond memories and photographs adorn the cosy restaurant - there is something to discover at every corner. The floor made of individual pieces of wood is unique - just like Mauri. The walls are decorated with nostalgic black-and-white photographs from Italy in the 1950s. White-covered tables, loving tabletop and, in the middle of it all, of course a charcoal grill with the charismatic capo behind it. That is Mauri's calling card – a genuine host with deep roots in the Apulian cucina della nonna.

The menu at Mauri's La Casa reads so excitingly and so deliciously that it's hard to choose. A journey of flavours and aromas with reinterpreted classics and exquisite house recipes. Homemade ravioli, tortellini and other fresh pasta delicacies will beam you straight to the Italian Riviera and meat specialities from the charcoal grill as well as fresh seafood round off your main course superbly. At Mauri's La Casa, only the highest quality seasonal and local ingredients are used. That's why all their dishes, from bread to pasta, are homemade. The fact that a lot of heart and soul goes into the dishes at Mauri’s La Casa, which is awarded with 14 Gault Millau points, can be felt instantly: the presentation and sophistication reflects the chefs approach of choosing quality over quantity. Mauri's La Casa is the manifestation and passion of his art, which is reflected not only in the cuisine, but also in the finest details and design of his new restaurant.

Sea bass carpaccio with ginger cucumber and mint, fresh pulpo artsy arranged, veal cheeks cooked 24h with very special leek and a tasty tuna sauce or beef fillet with foie gras and Marsala sauce are just some of the dishes we could enjoy. In autumn, you should not miss the porcini mushrooms from the charcoal grill or fresh truffle dishes. The butter tender, optimally matured and smoked veal chops from the local butcher are a must-have.

Also the wine list at Mauri's La Casa is a bible worth reading. For trouvailles and rarities like Sassicaia, Masseto Bolgheri or Ornellaia, one is happy to sacrifice one's piggy bank. The wine journey in Mauri's La Casa is just as exciting as the stories of the Padrone, who loves to chat with his guests, sometimes serves tailor-made specialities and likes to give his guests one or two kitchen secrets to take home with them.

Mauri's cucina con cuore convinces with simplicity and surprises with creativity. Unique textures and flavours give simple dishes an extraordinary touch. A symphony of flavours, aromas and textures of Puglia. Mauri's La Casa is more than just a restaurant. It is Mauri’s childhood vision, his kind of lifestyle, his life’s work, his pride and joy.
