The restaurant Morgenstern Da Mario belongs to Zurich just like the Langstrasse. As a Zurich resident, you have probably heard of it. Located rather inconspicuously in Kreis 4, not particularly chic from the outside, the restaurant is located on a side street and has made a name for itself in recent years.

They all meet at Zwinglistrasse. Hipster eateries, Asian takeaways, Dominican kiosks and, of course, the Italian who serves Mediterranean and Apulian specialties: Mario Caracutas. Since 2001 he has made the restaurant what it is today. A Zurich legend - A place to which one returns. A place where you don't want to be part of the Zurich chic crowd, but simply want to enjoy good, hearty, honest food.

The interior is kept very simple; it's not necessarily a fancy "Instagrammable" restaurant; but it doesn't have to be. There are already plenty of them in Zurich, especially in Kreis 4. The Morgenstern Da Mario prefers to focus on one thing: Food.

We visited the restaurant on a Friday at noon. The other guests present seemed like they eat there every Friday - they were very familiar with the waiters. One guest even ordered "the same as always" - we love such observations. We were spoiled for choice between the lunch menu or the regular menu. For our Appetizer, we opted for an antipasto plate à la Morgenstern. For the main course we chose the Spaghetti Vongole and Polpettone with Risotto.

The Appetizer tasted good. Kept simple - but delicious!

The Spaghetti Vongole was also very yummy - the portion for lunch is ideal, not too overloaded.

Our personal highlight was the Polpettone with Risotto. It was filled with Mozzarella and was extremely tender. While eating it almost fell apart by itself. Super tasty!

You can tell that at Mario’s the motto "less is more" comes into play. For those who like it sweet, Mario offers various desserts, such as different Pasticciotti.

Morgenstern da Mario is definitely a place for food lovers who don't put too much emphasis on a super fancy interior or ambience. Great food, good wines and Italian hospitality are the main focus here. There is a menu, but the waiter is equally happy to recommend fresh seasonal dishes - simply prepared and lovingly cooked.
